Bred in Surrey England at the national fruit trial in the 1940's in an effort to create an easier to grow and more disease resistant Comice type pear. Onward is a high quality dessert pear, a cross of Doyenne du Comice and Superb. More productive than Comice and considered to be similar in its excellent high quality characteristics.
