This variety came to us from Richard Fahey in upstate New York. It was supposed to be Arkansas Black, but when it fruited it clearly was not. Instead it is a very large, beautiful striped red apple with excellent sweet -acid balanced flavor, crunchy texture and heavy production. I haven't been able to identify it as a named variety yet, but it is certainly worth having in any collection. It ripens late summer to mid fall, and the the only thing similar to the old classic Arkansas Black is the color of the twig wood is quite dark.
