A cross between Cox Orange Pippin and Laxton's Superb, it is a wonderful richly flavored gourmet apple that is much easier to grow than the famed Cox. Very productive of orange red striped over green-yellow background apples that are juicy and crisp. Introduced in 1945 from England , it has good resistance to apple scab and mildew. Good in hot climates and hardy zones 6-9.
